DESIGNED FOR SAILING, CRAFTED FOR LIVING
The Excess concept corresponds to a certain idea of sailing: exalted, free, daring. The Excess 13 takes this idea a step further. Designed by a team of passionate sailors, this catamaran is the fruit of a long reflection on the pleasure of sailing, the pleasure of living aboard, and the pleasure of enjoying the playground that extends around the boat.
A DISTINCT CHARACTER!
With the Excess 13, the brand’s personality asserts itself even further. Reinforced by the ideas from a new team of architects, she unveils a modern, dynamic, efficient interior design, in keeping with her conquering exterior lines.
The Excess 13 is a sleek, dependable, lively sailboat. Ready for ocean passage-making, she is equipped for every way of loving the sea. She is designed to create intense experiences and unique memories. Her spaces have been optimized to facilitate life on board, increase storage space, lighten the structure and enhance sensations under sail. This uncompromising balance reveals a dynamic boat with unique potential, designed for sailors avidly seeking pleasure and freedom and taking on challenges.
A NEW TEAM OF ARCHITECTS AT THE HELM
This new model retains all the DNA of the range, created with VPLP team and Patrick Le Quément aboard the first generation of Excess catamarans. With the architectural expertise of Marc Lombard YDG, the Excess Design Team is continuing and strengthening the development of the innovative and dynamic second generation of Excess catamarans.
“The project was simple yet ambitious: to create a catamaran that would evolve and be balanced, reliable and offer good sensations, all combined with the comfort and interior volume that have made Excess such a success. The form of the hulls, the weight, the composite structure, the interior layout, the ergonomics, the efficiency of the sail plan... Everything on this new Excess is designed around the pleasure of easy sailing and comfortable living on board.” Eric Levet, Cabinet Lombard, naval architect of the new Excess 13
DESIGN: A FINER EXPRESSION OF THE BRAND’S DNA
The design of the Excess 13 picks up on the codes of our previous models. Externally, the Excess teams have retained the lines of the hull and the shape of the windows and have worked around this base to present a new model in keeping with the DNA of our brand.
For the interior design, Jean-Marc Piaton began with interviews to identify, understand and get into the spirit of the brand and give it substance.
“We listened to a good thirty people talk to us about the brand: employees, owners, dealers, charterers... What emerged was a very positive and, above all, highly identified perception. This is both very rare for such a young brand, and very interesting when considering its design. Hervé Piveteau had high expectations of lightness, both real and perceived, and wanted this new model to fit in well with the existing models, without creating too strong a break.”
LESS IS MORE
The Less is more philosophy inspired the design of the Excess 13. The aim is to offer greater functionality and comfort on board, while limiting any negative impacts as well as the amount of materials used. This approach is in line with boater’ aspirations for greater simplicity and moderation. The result is lighter, yet sturdier boats that guarantee great sailing sensations.
“Less is more means a constant search for optimization. Aboard the Excess 13, for example, we have installed a rainwater recovery system on the coachroof, which is then stored in a tank. An efficient ventilation system limits the power demanded by the air conditioning unit. Cabin doors have a dual function, as both entrance door and closet door. When one is open, the other is closed. This may seem anecdotal, but with less material and more room for passing, it’s the little details that, put together, make all the difference.”
